People reports a father says his son was dead for 45 minutes after being critically injured in a New Year’s Day apartment fire in Manchester that killed one person and sent eight others to the hospital. The blaze broke out shortly after midnight on Jan. 1 at Manchester’s Executive Manor Apartments, state officials said.

Two people, including a child, were reported critically injured; the child was found unresponsive in a bedroom and later transported to a Boston-area hospital. The boy’s father, Laka Aylisungu, told WMUR-TV his son remains "in very critical condition" and said, "He passed for 45 minutes.

They had to do CPR, and now he is breathing a little bit." Aylisungu said he was not home when the fire broke out and that his family only learned of it at the last minute after others had evacuated, according to the outlet. New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean Toomey said the fire is believed to have started on the third floor and that flames forced some people to jump from balconies and "prevented people from getting out into the hallways." One adult man later died after being transported to a Boston-area hospital; the State Fire Marshal's Office identified the victim as 70-year-old Thomas J.
