Felicia Day to crowdfund The Guild movie this summer
Felicia Day plans to launch a Kickstarter this summer to fund a movie spin-off of her web series The Guild, set 20 years after the original show. She is touring behind her first graphic novel, The Lost Daughter of Sparta, while preparing the reunion project. The Guild ran from 2007 to 2013; Day wrote and produced it and starred as Codex (Cyd Sherman), one of a group of players in a World of Warcraft-style MMORPG whose lives change when the guild meets offline.
The six seasons amassed more than 300 million views and led to comics, an album, music videos and specials, and the series helped prove the potential of web series and fan-funded gaming entertainment, influencing later actual-play hits such as Critical Role, which originally launched on Day's Geek and Sundry channel.
Day says the whole original cast is back and that a recent table read moved her to tears; performers slipped into their character voices and even reverted to the familiar bickering from the show's shoot.
