Final Fantasy 14's next major patch, 7.5, is due next month, and the Beastmaster job will arrive in subsequent updates after that. Players have known about Beastmaster since it was announced two years ago. Beastmaster is a limited job, similar to Blue Mage, intended as a side activity rather than regular content.

Wielding an axe and a shield, players will be able to tame various critters in the open world, bring three tamed beasts into play, and use each creature's unique abilities; duties and dungeons leading up to level 50 are likely to be part of the progression. The update also adds a new duty called Crucible of the Unbroken, which appears to be a roguelike mode with a branching path of nodes—technically the game's second roguelike after Deep Dungeon.
