Flamengo have parted ways with head coach Filipe Luis just hours after an 8-0 victory over Madureira in the Campeonato Carioca semi-final. The win sealed an 11-0 aggregate and a place in the final against Fluminense, but the club judged a change necessary after a stuttering start to the 2026 campaign.

The departure ends the former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid defender’s rapid rise from player to coach. Having joined Flamengo in 2019 and moved into coaching through the youth ranks in 2024, Luis and his entire backroom staff were relieved of their duties. "The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that, as of this Tuesday (3), Filipe Luis will no longer be in technical command of the professional team," the club said, adding that Ivan Palanco and Diogo Linhares also leave and thanking the coach for his contributions.

Luis leaves with 101 matches in charge, 64 victories and 15 defeats, and a trophy haul that includes the Copa do Brasil, the Brasileirao and the CONMEBOL Libertadores.
