Filmmakers confirm hidden Toy Story 5 Easter egg in Hoppers

Hoppers follows animal-lover Mabel (Piper Curda), who uses a new technology to put human consciousness into robotic animals as she tries to stop Mayor Jerry Generazzo’s (Jon Hamm) plan to build a freeway through a local glade. The film also features Bobby Moynihan, Kathy Najimy, Dave Franco and Meryl Streep.

Director Daniel Chong and producer Nicole Paradis Grindle described Hoppers as one of Pixar’s most ambitious projects, pointing to the many body types the animators had to tackle — birds, snakes, creatures that move on two and four legs, humans and fish — plus large, acting crowds and complex effects like fire and water.

They said the team embraced the challenge and leaned on technical expertise while keeping storytelling central. The filmmakers revealed several Easter eggs hidden in the film: a turtle named Crush nods to Finding Nemo, a room stacked with objects includes references to Coco and Toy Story 5, and Chong slipped in a modeled homage to his series We Bare Bears.
