Final Fantasy 11 is seeing a surge in players that has begun to strain its servers. Game director Yoji Fujito posted on the game's forums to explain the measures the team will take, writing: "Once again, we are seeing periods of congestion on the game's servers, this time with the Odin World, so I'd like to take a moment to explain what measures we will be taking to help address the issue." Player counts are relative to server size, and FF11’s worlds are modest compared with modern MMOs, but the numbers are notable.

An auction house database site put the game at about 87,700 active players at the time of writing, with the Odin server alone having around 13,000 active players. For comparison, other MMOs show smaller recent platform counts — Star Trek Online posts just under 2,000 daily players on Steam, while Albion peaks at just under 10,000 over 24 hours.
