A fire broke out near the Port of Fujairah on Saturday, sending plumes of dark smoke over the Gulf of Oman. The Fujairah government's media office said debris from an intercepted drone sparked the blaze, and some operations at the port were suspended. Officials reported no injuries.

The outbreak came a day after the US struck Kharg Island, a major Iranian oil depot located about 300 miles from the Strait of Hormuz. Kharg Island hosts refineries that process nearly all of Iran's oil exports. President Donald Trump posted that the US had "totally obliterated" military targets on Kharg Island and later said he hoped other countries affected by the Strait of Hormuz closure would send warships alongside the US.

The wider military conflict has disrupted shipping and energy markets. The International Energy Agency said global oil supply will drop by 8 million barrels a day in March and announced a coordinated release of 400 million barrels from reserves.
