People reports the Charlotte Fire Department said crews responded Saturday, Jan. 31, at around 7:35 p.m. local time to reports of a pickup truck that had lost control and gone into a retention pond; callers said the driver had exited the cab and was standing on the bed of the truck.

First crews found the vehicle partially submerged. In footage shared by the department, firefighters in an inflatable raft paddled to the truck; one shouted, "When we get to you, don't get off yet. We're gonna put this [life vest] on you, and then you're gonna get over [to the raft]." The driver then hopped into the raft.

The driver told firefighters they had been standing for about 45 minutes after contacting authorities and that they couldn't feel their toes. The driver was heard saying, "This is not football weather," as the raft returned to shore. Firefighters Andrew Woodall and Dustin Reynolds carried out the rescue, which the department said was completed at 8:28 p.m.; the patient was treated on scene and no additional injuries were reported.
