Firefly Animated Series in Development With Original Cast Returning

For weeks Nathan Fillion posted cryptic Instagram videos in which he met with his old castmates and implied a new project was in the works. Speaking at Awesome Con, Fillion revealed an animated reboot during a live taping of his podcast "Once We Were Spacemen," which he does with Alan Tudyk.

Tudyk attended the event alongside Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher and Summer Glau, all of whom are expected to reprise their roles; Adam Baldwin wasn't at the event but is expected to come back too. The new show will be set after the conclusion of the original series but before the events of Serenity.

The original Firefly produced just 14 episodes that ran mainly in 2002 on Fox and, despite a swift cancellation, found new life on DVD and led to the 2005 movie Serenity, which tied up several loose ends. The timeline of the animated series explains how Tudyk, whose character dies in the movie, could be involved.
