'Firefly' Soars on Streaming Amid Revival Rumors on Social Media
Nearly 24 years after its 2002 premiere, Firefly has climbed back onto streaming charts as speculation builds over a possible revival. The single-season space western created by Joss Whedon and featuring Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, and Jewel Staite remains a cult favorite with a devoted fanbase known as Browncoats.
At the time of publication the series sits 18th on Amazon’s Top 25 TV Shows in the United States (Flix Patrol) and 15th in the Apple TV store, notable positions for a show nearly a quarter-century old. Many viewers are buying digital copies even though the series is also available to stream on Hulu.
Nathan Fillion, who currently stars on The Rookie, has posted a series of cryptic Instagram videos since late February in which he visits former cast members and asks, “Are we doing this?” He has shared clips with Torres, Baccarin, Maher, Glau, Staite, and Adam Baldwin; Alan Tudyk is notably absent.
