Amazon has begun production on its live-action God of War series and released a first production photo showing Kratos, played by Ryan Hurst, standing behind Atreus, played by Callum Vinson. A press release on February 27 said filming has started in Culver City, California.

Ronald D. Moore serves as showrunner, executive producer and writer. The cast announced for the series includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.

The shared image drew a mixed response: some observers felt Kratos’s live-action appearance did not translate as expected, while Atreus’s portrayal was seen as more natural. Moore’s involvement and Amazon’s investment have raised hopes for the project, and the series has already been picked up for a second season. No release date has been set for season one, though it is expected to arrive in early 2027.
