First Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Teaser Confirms Jim Carrey Is Back

The first teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 confirms Jim Carrey is returning as Doctor Eggman and that Keanu Reeves’ Shadow will be back. There’s no real footage yet, but Carrey provides a voiceover saying, "You think your world is safe, but your time is about to run out.

The chaos has only just begun." As Eggman speaks, the Chaos Emeralds appear, each containing flashes of different characters: Amy, Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic’s human parents Maddie and Tom. Shadow also appears in the teaser, and Reeves has been confirmed to return in the film.

The big reveal is Carrey’s return after Eggman appeared to die at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, sacrificing himself to stop his grandfather’s plan to destroy the world. Rumors suggest Sonic 4 may take place at least partly in an alternate timeline where Eggman has conquered the world, with Amy supposedly coming from that universe — a possible explanation for Eggman being alive and still an antagonist despite his earlier change of heart.
