A partial government shutdown has led to long lines at airports as large numbers of TSA agents call out and 366 have left their jobs. Staff have been working without pay since February 14. The Department of Homeland Security said the nationwide callout rate climbed from under 2% before the shutdown to about 6%, placing severe strain on operations.

The five airports with the highest callout rates during the shutdown were Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (21.46%), John F. Kennedy International (21.4%), Houston Hobby (20.98%), Louis Armstrong New Orleans International (16.46%), and Pittsburgh International (13.81%).

Around 11 a.m. Tuesday, Atlanta's international security checkpoint recorded waits as long as 90 minutes. JFK's website listed a longest wait of 29 minutes. Houston Hobby had a single-day callout rate of 55% last Saturday and has had unscheduled absences above 30% on at least five days; New Orleans exceeded 30% on Sunday and Monday.
