Font meets Manchester City to discuss Haaland as Lewandowski replacement
Victor Font made a major move in the Barcelona presidential race by opening direct contact with Manchester City to discuss Erling Haaland. Carles Planchart and Xavier Aguilar, with Aguilar set to become sporting director, met Ferran Sorriano and Hugo Viana at the Four Seasons Hotel in Madrid.
The meetings centred on a possible summer plan to replace Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expires on 30 June and is not expected to be renewed. Haaland remains tied to City until 30 June 2034, although rumours of an early exit have begun to circulate. The contact has given a boost to Font's campaign; his staff said, "The sporting management is more than active these days and is working on the transfer market, travelling and meeting with various clubs.
We have important things to offer Hansi Flick." Whether the Haaland approach is a concrete transfer strategy or an electoral tactic is unclear.
