Forbidden City clips highlight fight scenes ahead of digital streaming release
Two new clips from The Forbidden City put the spotlight on the film’s fight sequences, showing a character described as a gender-swapped John Wick using everyday objects — even a CD — as weapons. One clip also showcases expert use of a tablecloth. Directed by Gabriele Mainetti and written by Mainetti with Stefano Bises and Davide Serino, the film stars Yaxi Liu alongside Enrico Borello, Marco Giallini, Sabrina Ferilli, Chunyu Shanshan and Luca Zingaretti.
Well Go USA will release the film on digital streaming on March 17, 2026. The Forbidden City follows Mei, who arrives in Rome searching for her missing sister, and Marcello, who is desperate to find his father; together they fight their way through the Roman underworld.
The movie mixes lightning-paced martial arts with mystery, family drama and a dash of romance, and has been likened to a Taken-esque rescue mission. Critical response has been strong: the film holds a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
