Ford Says Electric Vehicle Losses Will Continue for 3 More Years — NYT > Technology

Ford Motor reported a big loss for 2025 tied to its electric vehicle division, which it has significantly scaled back. Including the 2025 loss, the EV business has lost more than $16 billion since 2022. The company said the EV unit lost $4.8 billion in 2025 and is expected to lose $4 billion to $4.5 billion in 2026, with losses continuing for at least two more years.

"We are now targeting break-even around 2029," Ford’s chief financial officer, Sherry House, said during a conference call. In December, Ford halted production of the F-150 Lightning, scrapped plans for an electric truck at the Tennessee plant and canceled an electric commercial van.

It will build a Lightning that includes a gasoline engine to recharge the batteries on the go, use the Tennessee factory for a gasoline-powered truck, and make hybrid and gas-powered delivery vans in Ohio. The company still plans a medium-size pickup expected in 2027 that it says will cost a lot less to produce and sell for around $30,000.
