Packsize founder Hanko Kiessner began installing electric-vehicle chargers at his Salt Lake City headquarters after he developed asthma and linked it to local air pollution. He helped form a nonprofit, Leaders for Clean Air, to raise money for chargers and to encourage more people to consider EVs.

The company started with three chargers for about 100 employees, and as staff bought EVs it expanded the network. The parking lot now has 53 stations and the firm reports nearly 30% EV adoption among employees, leaving additional plugs for visitors and nearby businesses.

Kiessner says the infrastructure came first and that most employees switched after chargers were available. Charging stations are inexpensive to run at a corporate electricity rate — about $3 a day per station for his company — and offer a low-cost perk that can help bring people back to the office in a post-COVID world.
