France's Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) has flagged 90 crypto companies as unlicensed under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) framework ahead of the end-June deadline, Reuters reported. The AMF warned that about 30% of the unlicensed companies had not responded to its query on whether they plan to obtain the required licence, Reuters said.

AMF executive director Stephane Pontoizeau told Reuters the regulator notified the firms in November to remind them the country’s transition period ends on June 30, and the report said companies that fail to comply will be forced to cease operations by July. Of the 90 businesses, Pontoizeau said about 40% have indicated they do not intend to apply for MiCA licences and another 30% said their licence applications were in progress.

The regulator did not provide details on which companies declined to seek a licence or remained unresponsive, and Cointelegraph had not received a response from the AMF at the time of publication. Since MiCA came fully into force in late 2024, the AMF has issued licences to a handful of firms, including CoinShares, licensed in July 2025, and Switzerland’s Bitcoin app Relai, which received a MiCA licence in October.
