Thomas Frank says he is not enjoying Tottenham role amid injuries, transition and fan unrest
Thomas Frank has admitted he is not enjoying his job as Tottenham head coach as he navigates a transitional season plagued by a lack of creativity and other problems. Spurs were booed off after a 0-0 draw at Brentford, with travelling supporters chanting “boring, boring Tottenham”.
Tottenham sit 12th in the Premier League and face Sunderland next. Frank likened the campaign to a marathon and said: “When you need to put in a big, big shift and it’s not smooth and it’s tough, it’s probably difficult to enjoy it... So the short answer is: no [he is not enjoying his job].” Injuries have been a major issue.
Frank said he did not expect Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison to be out for seven months or Dominic Solanke to miss nearly the whole season; Solanke has now returned to training. Kulusevski is not yet back in training despite earlier reports he might return around the turn of the year.
Xavi Simons will miss the Sunderland game due to a three-match ban and Lucas Bergvall is an injury doubt. Executive upheaval and squad strain from Champions League involvement have added to the club’s difficulties. Daniel Levy has departed and sporting director Fabio Paratici is linked with a move to Fiorentina; Frank said Paratici is “working very hard for Tottenham.” Manor Solomon left Villarreal to join Fiorentina on loan this week.
