Freund sets new timeframe as Neuer's Bayern future remains uncertain
Sporting director Christoph Freund said at a press conference that the club is "in regular contact with Manu" but does not expect a quick decision on a contract extension. He added they will "see what April and early May bring, how he feels once he’s back in goal, including in English fixtures," after which Neuer will "approach us" and they will discuss "which direction things should go in," guided by "what his gut feeling tells him." Neuer had earlier described himself as "positive" about extending his contract and said he would make a "final decision" in late March or early April.
That timetable now looks uncertain amid ongoing fitness problems: he suffered a torn muscle fibre shortly before Christmas, another calf muscle tear in mid‑February against Werder Bremen, and after returning against Borussia Mönchengladbach had to come off at half‑time and has been sidelined since.
