FSG keep faith in Arne Slot after Liverpool held 1-1 by Burnley
According to Goal, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) continue to back manager Arne Slot despite a 1-1 home draw with Burnley that extended the Reds' winless run to four matches and left the defending champions 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal. Florian Wirtz put Liverpool ahead with his fourth goal in six games, but Marcus Edwards equalised midway through the second half with his first league goal of the season, earning Burnley a point and prompting supporters to boo the team off.
Slot said after the game: "I completely understand the frustration. I have the same and the players definitely have the same frustration as the fans have. If we are not disappointed anymore by having a draw at home against Burnley then something is completely wrong." FSG's stance was reported by The Athletic, which said the owners have no intention of making a January change like rivals who have already sacked managers this month, naming the exits of Ruben Amorim and Enzo Maresca.
The report noted a ready-made replacement in ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, recently relieved of his duties at Real Madrid and previously linked with the Anfield job in 2024.
