Game dev union marches at GDC with draft 'Game Workers' Bill of Rights'
Around 50 developers and members of the United Videogame Workers of CWA marched through the Game Developers Conference on Wednesday in a demonstration similar to last year's. The group chanted "videogames are worker-made" and "game workers united will never be defeated."
Outside at Yerba Buena, organizers handed out a first draft of a "Game Workers' Bill of Rights." The list of universal protections is intended to help shop unions, such as those at Blizzard and ZeniMax, bargain and to serve as a template for new unions or freelancers.
Suggested protections in the draft include measures to prevent companies from requiring AI use or using AI to replace workers, anti-crunch policies, and safeguards for remote employees. It also proposes protections for immigrant workers in the US who could be targeted by ICE.
This week UVW-CWA announced a wider "We don't play with ICE" campaign and a free Gamer Workers Conference to be held online in May.
