Gangs of London Is the Modern Crime Thriller Peaky Blinders Fans Need
With Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man on the way, viewers looking for another plunge into Britain’s criminal underworld can turn to Gangs of London. Set in contemporary London, it keeps a gritty tone and high stakes similar to Steven Knight’s series while updating the action and drama for a modern setting.
Joe Cole stars as Sean Wallace, whose father’s murder (played by Colm Meaney) throws the family organization into chaos and invites rival gangs to vie for power. The ensemble also includes Paapa Essiedu, Sope Dirisu, Lucian Msamati and Michelle Fairley. The show airs on Sky Atlantic and on AMC in the United States, and all three seasons are available on AMC+.
Created by Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery and loosely based on London Studio’s 2006 video game, the series is more stylized and graphic than the period drama but explores similar themes: criminal families treating crime as a business and violence as a measure of power.
