Getafe's Davinchi confirms father among victims of Spain train crash
According to Goal, Getafe defender Davinchi has confirmed his father, David Cordon Cano, 50, was among the 42 people killed in Sunday’s rail disaster near Adamuz in Córdoba as he returned from his son’s match in Madrid.
Cordon Cano was travelling on the Alvia service bound for Huelva when it was struck by a derailed Iryo high-speed train near Adamuz. He had travelled to Madrid to watch Getafe’s game against Valencia despite Davinchi not featuring because of a knee problem. The collision has plunged the Spanish football community into mourning.
Davinchi, 18, who joined Getafe permanently from Recreativo Huelva in the summer and has made seven league appearances, shared photographs and an open letter on Instagram, writing, "Everything I do in this life will always be for the brightest star I have in the sky." The Spanish Football Federation paid tribute to Cordon Cano’s beach soccer career between 2001 and 2004, noting two European titles and two World Championship runner-up finishes. Getafe issued a sombre statement confirming the news, offering full support and saying it will stand by the player as he recovers from this personal blow.
