GetUp hires David Sharaz to lead media and political campaigns

GetUp has hired David Sharaz to a senior role, naming him to lead its campaign work on media accountability, misinformation and political operations. Sharaz, formerly a journalist and most recently a public relations executive, is married to Brittany Higgins. The role will draw on the experience of overseas groups including the UK media reform campaign Hacked Off.

The progressive campaigning group said it has rebuilt organisational strength, expanding its workforce and financial position after a period of consolidation. Its profile dipped in recent years amid staff turnover, changes of government in Canberra and the emergence of new players such as Advance, but it now has a growing membership base and a war chest of more than $1m.
