Nottingham Forest plunged Tottenham deeper into the relegation fight with a 3-0 victory in north London, as travelling supporters chanted "We are staying up". The win was Vítor Pereira’s first league victory since taking charge last month, and West Ham’s defeat at Aston Villa only enhanced Forest’s mood.

When Spurs re-emerge after the international break, their trip to Sunderland will be the first of seven games to try to preserve their Premier League status. Igor Jesus opened the scoring by heading in unmarked from a corner at the end of the first half. Morgan Gibbs-White, a Tottenham target last summer, doubled the lead after being left totally unmarked just beyond the penalty spot; his strike cannoned in off an exposed Guglielmo Vicario, who will undergo hernia surgery next week.

Substitute Taiwo Awoniyi compounded Spurs’s problems, side-footing home Neco Williams’s brilliant cross to make it 3-0.
