GLF OS: a gamer-focused Linux distro that’s tricky to install but rewarding
GLF OS bills itself as a gamer-centric Linux distribution and a French-speaking gaming community, and it even offers to install DaVinci Resolve during setup. Install options range from Standard and Minimal to Gaming, Studio (free), and Studio Pro, the latter upgrading to DaVinci Resolve Studio.
The installer proved stubborn. Early attempts in virtual machines crashed or froze around 46 percent; increasing RAM and CPU cores and switching VM tools didn’t help. That behavior stems from NixOS—on which GLF OS is based—downloading every package during installation, a known issue.
The Minimal edition installed successfully in a VM, and a full install on a spare physical machine completed and ran DaVinci Resolve without problems. Once running, the Welcome app makes clear the distribution’s gaming focus. The Mini installation lacked some preinstalled gaming software, but GLF OS includes Easy Flatpak, which makes finding and installing games and related apps straightforward.
