Time reports that demonstrations in solidarity with Iranian protesters have taken place from Los Angeles to London as deadly unrest spreads across Iran’s 31 provinces. The unrest began over economic instability and has broadened into rallies against the Islamic regime that has governed since 1979; the death toll is thought to be in the thousands amid a nationwide internet blackout as authorities crack down.

U.S. President Donald Trump is said to be considering "very strong options" on possible military action, while Tehran has said it is "prepared for war" but is also ready to negotiate provided no intervention is launched. Abroad, some solidarity demonstrations have been peaceful and others chaotic: in Los Angeles a U-Haul drove into a crowd on Jan.

11, injuring one man; the driver was detained, the LAPD said it was "looking at possible assault with a deadly weapon," and the suspect was later released from hospital. In London a protester scaled the Iranian embassy entrance and replaced the Islamic Republic flag with the pre-revolution Pahlavi flag; Metropolitan Police said two arrests were made for aggravated trespass and assault on an emergency worker and officers are seeking another individual.
