Godot Maintainers Strained by Wave of AI-Generated Pull Requests — Kotaku

Godot Engine project manager Rémi Verschelde says an unending wave of AI-generated pull requests is “increasingly draining and demoralizing” maintainers, with more than 4,600 pull requests currently open on the engine’s GitHub. His comment on Bluesky replied to a post by Adriaan de Jongh, who described the repository as overrun and called the situation “a total shitshow.” De Jongh added that many changes “often make no sense,” descriptions are overly verbose and contributors sometimes don’t understand their own changes.

Verschelde warned that maintainers now have to second-guess every pull request from new contributors multiple times per day. Verschelde said Godot prides itself on being welcoming but may need more donations to hire additional maintainers: “Maintainers spend a lot of time assisting new contributors to help them get PRs in a mergeable state.

I don’t know how long we can keep it up.” He also raised the prospect of raising the barrier to entry for contributors.
