Gold in Hytale: where to find it and how to smelt ingots

Polygon says gold is one of the rarest ores in Hytale and is best found on high slopes rather than by digging deep.

Any zone may contain gold but it only spawns in specific locations and is incredibly rare. On a new game the first place to check is the high slopes of the Howling Sands (Zone 2), particularly on plateaus. The best place to farm gold is the Whisperfront Frontiers (Zone 3), where large snowy mountains commonly have deposits on their slopes, and you can also pick up cobalt there. Gold is not nearly as common as thorium.

Gold can also appear in underground caves, including rare finds inside Emerald Wilds (Zone 1) caves, though that requires luck. Deposits tend to spawn near lava deep in cave systems, and the Devastated Lands (Zone 4) may contain solid gold blocks inside lava caves.

To obtain ingots you must smelt gold ore in a furnace; a basic furnace without upgrades will suffice. Gold cannot be used to craft new tools, weapons, or armor, but it can be used to craft a flame crystal staff at the arcanist's workbench and several fancy chests. For strong armor, the guide advises searching for adamantite.
