The 83rd Golden Globes ceremony is set to begin at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, with Nikki Glaser returning as host and a three-hour telecast airing on CBS and on Paramount+ for premium subscribers. The show starts at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific. The Globes, voted on by more than 300 foreign journalists, honor achievements in film and television and are often watched for clues about possible Oscar contenders even though the Globes voters are distinct from the Academy.

For the first time the awards will include a best podcast category, in which the Globes opted for entertainment podcasts and excluded controversial nominees, and the ceremony’s two lifetime achievement honors for Helen Mirren and Sarah Jessica Parker were presented separately in a “Golden Eve” special on Paramount+ rather than at the main show.

Industry attention on nominations includes Netflix, which leads combined film and television nominations with 35, and Warner Bros., which has 31. Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another leads the Globes with nine nominations and is described as all but certain to win best musical or comedy; in the drama categories Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is cited as a contender but faces competition from Hamnet and Sentimental Value.

Red carpet activity includes fashion notes and a campaign asking attendees and presenters to wear black-and-white pins reading “ICE OUT” or “BE GOOD,” organized by the A.C.L.U.
