At the Golden Globes on Sunday, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another won best motion picture — musical or comedy and collected multiple awards, while Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet took best motion picture — drama. Warner Bros. Discovery projects led all companies with nine Globes.

One Battle After Another was the evening’s most awarded film, taking prizes for director, screenplay and one of its actors in addition to best comedy. Hamnet won best drama and earned lead-actor and actress recognition for Paul Mescal (nomination noted) and Jessie Buckley, respectively; the article said the win could strengthen Hamnet’s Oscar prospects.

The original film Sinners won awards for best original score and a box office and cinematic achievement prize, and was reported to have earned $278 million in the United States. On television, The Pitt won best drama and Noah Wyle earned best actor in a TV drama, while Jean Smart won her third Globe for Hacks and The Studio took best TV comedy.

Several performers won their first Golden Globes, including Timothée Chalamet (best actor, musical or comedy, for Marty Supreme), Rose Byrne, Rhea Seehorn and Jessie Buckley. The Globes also presented their first award for best podcast to Good Hang with Amy Poehler, and the ceremony’s host, Nikki Glaser, made a brief onstage reference to the recent deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife.
