Warner Bros. Discovery Leads at Golden Globes; 'Hamnet' and 'One Battle After Another' Win
At the 83rd Golden Globes on Sunday, Warner Bros. Discovery-backed projects collected multiple top prizes, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another winning best motion picture — musical or comedy and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet taking best motion picture — drama. Warner Bros. titles won nine Golden Globes in all.
One Battle After Another also earned awards for its director, screenplay and an acting prize, while Sinners won two awards, including best original score and the box office and cinematic achievement prize. Netflix dominated the miniseries and animated film categories with Adolescence and KPop Demon Hunters; Adolescence also won acting prizes.
First-time Globe winners included Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Rhea Seehorn (Pluribus) and Jessie Buckley, who won best actress in a drama for Hamnet. Wagner Moura won best actor in a drama for The Secret Agent, becoming the first Brazilian man to win that category.
In television, The Pitt won best drama and Noah Wyle won best actor in a TV drama, while Jean Smart won for Hacks for the third time and The Studio won best TV comedy. The ceremony came amid an ongoing bidding war over Warner Bros. Discovery — Netflix has proposed an $83 billion acquisition and Paramount has launched a hostile takeover bid — a backdrop the show’s winners and speeches at times referenced.
