GoldenLand: a 2001 Russian CRPG that blends Fallout mechanics with Old Rus
GoldenLand (Zlatogorye), released in 2001 and published in English as Heath: The Unchosen Path, is an isometric CRPG from a Russian studio that blends Old Rus folklore with familiar western role‑playing conventions. You start revived to serve the Good God Belobog against the evil Drah‑Shu after vygaks raze your village.
The setting leans on Old Rus epics—bogatyrs, a pseudo‑Mongol invasion and an approach to the divine that feels distinctly Orthodox—rather than Tolkien‑style fantasy, and an early quest sends you to find Gromoboy, a bogatyr. Character creation echoes Baldur's Gate: pick a class (Fighter, Mage, Thief, Ranger) or make your own, then set out into combat that revolves around managing action points in a way very much like Fallout.
Progression grants perks in the Fallout style, and the overall feel often brings Baldur's Gate, Fallout and Arcanum to mind, though Arcanum was not an influence given it arrived the same year.
