Google Docs can now generate short spoken summaries of documents using Gemini. The "Listen to document summary" feature creates a concise synopsis and plays it through a floating, moveable mini player so you can listen while doing other things. The player lets you pause and restart, jump forward or back with a scrubber, change playback speed, and choose from several voices.

Audio summaries cover a document’s contents, including multiple tabs, and are typically under a few minutes long, using a natural speaking style. Access to the feature is limited to certain paid plans: Business Standard and Plus; Enterprise Standard and Plus; the Google AI Ultra for Business add-on; the Google AI Pro for Education add-on; and Google AI Pro and Ultra.

The rollout is gradual, so users with eligible plans may have to wait for it to appear. To try it, open a document on the Google Docs website, go to the Tools menu, pick Audio, and select "Listen to document summary".
