Gravina: Open VAR speculation unwarranted; Tonali concern moderate
FIGC president Gabriele Gravina described today’s Federal Council meeting as significant, saying he had examined internal divisions within the AIA and tensions fuelled by certain comments. The federation is awaiting the appeal regarding the suspension of the AIA president, which was confirmed on 23 February; details have not yet been communicated to us.
Gravina dismissed the speculation around Open VAR as inappropriate. He said the project was inspired by the principle of maximum transparency and could have served as a tool for training and information, but that it has been exploited. He also condemned violence against referees and reiterated measures the federation has taken since 2019 to tighten sanctions.
On Sandro Tonali, Gravina said he was calm and in close contact with Gattuso, thanking him for the extraordinary work he has done in recent months. He spoke with Sandro last night, alongside Mr Gattuso and Dr De Carli, and said the player seemed more relaxed than when he left.
