Time reports Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen on Sunday warned the United States to stop threats of annexation against the territory, saying, "No more pressure. No more hints. No more fantasies about annexation." He added Greenland is open to dialogue but will no longer stand for "pressure" or "disrespectful posts on social media." Nielsen’s statement followed President Donald Trump’s renewed annexation remarks in the wake of the Venezuela operation which saw Nicolás Maduro captured and brought to the U.S.

Aboard Air Force One, Trump said, "We need Greenland from a national security situation. It’s so strategic," and asserted "Right now Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place. We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security. And Denmark is not going to be able to do it." Nielsen called the comments "utterly unacceptable" and said, "When the President of the United States talks about 'we need Greenland' and connects us with Venezuela and military intervention, it's not just wrong, it’s so disrespectful." Others in Trump’s circle have echoed the rhetoric: Katie Miller posted a map of Greenland with a U.S.

flag and the word "soon," which Nielsen answered by saying "our country is not for sale and our future is not determined by social media posts" and urging Greenland natives not to panic. Tensions have included protests outside the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen on Apr. 6, 2025, a visit by Vice President J.D.
