According to Goal, Mason Greenwood produced a clinical display as Marseille beat sixth-tier Bayeux 9-0 to reach the last 16 of the Coupe de France.

The 24-year-old scored a hat-trick and registered an assist, taking his season tally to 19 goals and marking seven in his last five appearances. Greenwood also donned the captain's armband during the second half of a one-sided rout that saw Marseille dominate from the start.

Angel Gomes opened the scoring in the 13th minute and Hamed Traore doubled the lead three minutes later. Greenwood's first goal came midway through the first half after a counter-attack, and Amine Gouiri added a fourth just past the half-hour mark.

Greenwood scored again four minutes after the restart and set up Gouiri for Marseille's sixth; defender CJ Egan-Riley netted his first goal for the club and Neal Maupay added a late strike. With practically the last kick of the game Greenwood completed his hat-trick and claimed the match ball. After the match Greenwood paid tribute to Bayeux, saying: "It was easy for us but they came in numbers today. It was a big day for them, a dream to play against us and we must congratulate them. It was a nice team and now we must think about what follows." Marseille now progress to the last 16, and De Zerbi will look to translate this ruthlessness into league form.
