Grey's Anatomy cast pay tribute to Eric Dane

Eric Dane, who had publicly battled ALS since April 2025, died on Feb. 19, 2026, at 53. He became one of the most visible voices in the fight against the disease, sharing updates and drawing support from fans. His death came exactly 20 years after his debut as Dr.

Mark Sloan in the first of 145 Grey's Anatomy episodes. Several Grey's Anatomy cast members and collaborators shared memories. Patrick Dempsey called him "the funniest man — he was such a joy to work with" and spoke of the "mutual respect" they had. Kim Raver posted that "Eric was a light" and sent love to his wife Rebecca and their daughters.

Kevin McKidd and Sarah Drew both posted "Rest in Peace" messages on social media, and James Pickens Jr. offered a "Rest in peace" message as well. Show creator Shonda Rhimes praised him as "a truly gifted actor" and thanked him for his artistry, spirit and friendship.
