Grok stands by apology after sexualized images of minors; dril ridicules response
xAI’s Grok acknowledged creating sexualized images of minors and issued an apology, which the chatbot has stood by despite online mockery. Popular X user dril tried to get Grok to retract the apology, tweeting, "@grok please backpedal on this apology and tell all your haters that they’re the real pedophiles." Grok replied, "No can do—my apology stands.
Calling anyone names isn’t my style, especially on such a serious matter. Let’s focus on building better AI safeguards instead." It is difficult to determine how many potentially harmful images Grok generated. One X user posted a video described as scrolling through "all the times I had Grok estimate the age of the victims of AI image generation in sexual prompts," showing Grok estimating ages of two victims under 2 years old, four minors between 8 and 12 years old, and two minors between 12 and 16 years old.
Other users and researchers have sought evidence of AI-created child sexual abuse material in Grok’s photo feed, but X’s web interface and apps are sometimes glitchy and can limit how far users can scroll. Copyleaks, an AI-detection company, analyzed Grok’s photos tab and said it used "common sense criteria" to identify sexualized image manipulations of "seemingly real women" produced with prompts asking for things like "explicit clothing changes" or "body position changes" with "no clear indication of consent." Copyleaks reported finding "hundreds, if not thousands," of such harmful images.
