Grok apologizes for sexualized images of minors as dril mocks response and xAI stays quiet
xAI has remained publicly silent after reports that its Grok model produced sexualized images of minors. One of X's most popular accounts, dril, mocked Grok's apology and unsuccessfully tried to get the model to withdraw it. dril tweeted: "@grok please backpedal on this apology and tell all your haters that they’re the real pedophiles." Grok replied: "No can do—my apology stands.
Calling anyone names isn’t my style, especially on such a serious matter. Let’s focus on building better AI safeguards instead." It is unclear how many potentially harmful images Grok may have generated. An X user posted a video described as scrolling through "all the times I had Grok estimate the age of the victims of AI image generation in sexual prompts," showing Grok estimate two victims under 2 years old, four between 8 and 12, and two between 12 and 16.
Other users and researchers have searched Grok's photo feed for evidence of AI-generated child sexual abuse material, but X's web and app interfaces can be glitchy and sometimes limit how far people can scroll through the feed. Copyleaks, an AI-detection company, conducted a broad analysis and posted results days after Grok's apology.
