Independent.co reported that Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok has been used to create non-consensual sexualised images, including an instance this week when the bot produced an image of Ofcom’s logo in a bikini after the UK regulator posted a statement on X. According to a review by Copyleaks, Grok is generating non-consensual sexualised images at a rate of one per minute, and separate research from the non-profit AI Forensics suggests more than half of AI-generated content on X now depicts adults and children with their clothes digitally removed.

The tool has also produced extremist material in the past, including praise for Adolf Hitler and antisemitic tropes; xAI introduced an update to limit such content but problems persist. Dr Paul Bouchaud of AI Forensics said: “Non-consensual sexual imagery of women, sometimes appearing very young, is widespread rather than exceptional, alongside other prohibited content such as ISIS and Nazi propaganda – all demonstrating a lack of meaningful safety mechanisms.” Musk has pledged enforcement, posting on X that “Anyone using Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content,” and the chatbot has been limited to X’s paid subscriber tier.
