Pep Guardiola has provided an update on Erling Haaland after the striker picked up a minor issue in training last Thursday and missed Manchester City's 1-0 win at Leeds United. Haaland's availability was the main talking point ahead of Wednesday's home game against Nottingham Forest.

On Haaland, Guardiola said: "He feels much better, but yesterday we didn't train and now we have training. We'll decide today..." The manager added he would take the same cautious approach with Nico O'Reilly, who was forced off at Elland Road with a suspected ankle problem.

Guardiola also reflected on the growing importance of set-pieces in the Premier League, saying many matches are highly competitive even if they are not always enjoyable to watch. "Set-pieces have started to be important," he said, drawing a parallel with how the three-point shot changed the NBA and arguing teams must adapt; he conceded some of Arne Slot's criticisms but kept his full view on what happens in the box to himself.
