Reporting by Theguardian says missing four-year-old Gus Lamont’s “devastated” grandmothers have engaged lawyers a day after police declared his disappearance a major crime. South Australia police say they now believe Gus never left the family’s 60,000 hectare sheep station and that someone who lived at the station was involved; they declared the disappearance a major crime and said a person who withdrew their cooperation is now considered a suspect.

Police seized a vehicle, a motorbike and electronic devices in mid January. Lawyers Andrew Ey, of Mangan Ey and Associates, and Casey Isaacs, of Caldicott + Isaacs Lawyers, confirmed they are acting for Josie Murray and Shannon Murray and said their clients would not be doing any interviews.

They released a joint statement saying: “We are absolutely devastated by the media release of SAPOL Major Crime.
