Guy Ritchie's 'Young Sherlock' Topples Prime Video Favorites
Guy Ritchie's Young Sherlock premiered on Mar. 4 and quickly rose to become Prime Video's most popular show worldwide and in the United States, overtaking titles such as Cross, Fallout and Beast Games. The period origin story takes place long before the detective earned his reputation and follows him as he travels the globe trying to clear his name after being pinpointed as the lead suspect in a murder.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin stars as Sherlock; Ritchie developed the series with Peter Harness, directs the first two episodes, and Matthew Parkhill created the show. The cast also includes Dónal Finn, Joseph Fiennes, Zine Tseng, Natascha McElhone and Max Irons as Mycroft.
Ritchie's signature style is evident throughout: brisk pacing, stylized fight sequences and tight editing. The series reworks the Sherlock–Moriarty relationship by beginning with the two at Oxford's Candlin College as friends, which adds a layer of suspense to their eventual rivalry.
