Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock Tops Cumberbatch Series on Rotten Tomatoes
Guy Ritchie returns to Sherlockian territory with Young Sherlock, a series based on Andrew Lane's young adult novels that premiered on Prime Video on March 4 and immediately rose to the top of the streaming charts.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin stars as a 19-year-old Sherlock at Oxford. Created by Matthew Parkhill and directed by Ritchie, the cast also includes Natascha McElhone, Joseph Fiennes, Dónal Finn, Max Irons and Colin Firth. When a murder at Oxford puts Holmes's freedom at risk, he launches his first investigation, which unfolds into a global-level conspiracy.
Early reception has been strong. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists an 84% critics' score for Young Sherlock, edging out the Benedict Cumberbatch-led Sherlock, which holds a 78% rating. Therese Lacson awarded the series an 8/10, saying it offers "a refreshing and unique take on the famous detective."
