Gwyneth Paltrow described her “love-hate” relationship with the Anna Wintour-helmed Met Gala, writing that she has “sort of a love-hate relationship with the Met Ball that’s well documented.” She added, “I’m me — so I’m never going to the Met Ball in like, a hot dog costume or whatever, you know?

I always have to be myself, first and foremost. Like, I’m not going in a costume; I’m going in a dress.” Paltrow drew a line between two approaches to the event, saying, “There’s two camps who go to the Met Ball — the costume or the evening dress. And I’m always going to be an evening dress person.” Her comments appeared to target more theatrical red carpet choices, such as Katy Perry’s hamburger look in 2019 and Doja Cat’s transformation into Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette, for the 2023 theme.
