Arsenal kept their place atop the Premier League after a hard-fought win over Everton, but the headlines belonged to 16-year-old Max Dowman. The Hale End product became the youngest-ever goalscorer in the competition after coming off the bench to seal a late victory, a moment that clearly delighted team-mate Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres was quick to point to Dowman’s impact, saying: "He doesn't seem 16 when he is playing, but he is unbelievable and to see him score a goal like that. You could see all the players celebrating with him. He is amazing, and I am so happy for him." He added to club media: "He makes a lot of right decisions when he comes on the pitch.

He's an incredible and very good player." For much of the evening Arsenal had looked in danger of a frustrating night, but the mood shifted when Gyokeres, with Dowman playing a key role in the build up, found the net in the dying embers and ended the tension.
