Haaland: 'No excuse' as striker rejects fatigue for goal drought
Erling Haaland gave a blunt assessment of his recent form after a dramatic win at Anfield, where he set up Bernardo Silva’s equaliser and then scored an injury‑time penalty. He refused to use burnout as an explanation for a run of games without an open‑play goal.
“I haven't scored enough goals since the start of this year,” he said, adding that he must “be more sharp, better at all of this” and work to improve his output for the team. City’s congested schedule and the absence of Omar Marmoush at the Africa Cup of Nations have drawn suggestions of fatigue, but Haaland shut down that line of argument: “I don't want to speak about why I haven't performed.
I don't think there's any excuse. Fatigue is a lot is in the head... for me, it's about staying fit, don't get injured. That's the most important thing.” Despite the dry spell from open play, Haaland remains the Premier League’s leading scorer with 21 league goals, four clear of Igor Thiago.
