Hannah Gadsby: The Obamas watched Nanette as a family
Hannah Gadsby recently released a free standup special, Woof!, in which she performs as a homemade sock puppet. She says she grew tired of being seen and that much standup is now background noise, so she chose to record an album rather than film the whole thing.
The puppet was a deliberate, homemade response to what she calls "AI slop," and the aesthetic was meant to reflect the show's theme of anxiety. Gadsby describes herself as someone who looks up spoilers to avoid panic and gets more out of a story on a second viewing; she mentions Get Out as a film she hasn’t watched but has read about.
She also admits an inability to form parasocial attachments, saying she can’t get swept up in fandoms such as Taylor Swift’s and that she simply can’t watch reality TV. Her new show, The Evening Muse, will cast her as a late‑night host at the Melbourne international comedy festival.
